Guide · Your number
Keeping your number when you switch to GetOnIt
There are two different questions here. If you already have a UK number, you can move it to your new network. If your number is from home, you can't move it to a UK network, but you can keep using it alongside a UK eSIM.

Moving a UK number: the PAC code
Every UK network gives you a free PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) to take your number with you. Text PAC to 65075 from the phone you want to move, and the code arrives by text straight away. It lasts 30 days.
On GetOnIt, enter your number, the PAC and the day you want to switch in your account under Number. We handle the rest, and your old network closes your old plan when the switch goes through.
Before you switch
- Check if your old plan has a minimum term or an exit fee: a PAC doesn't cancel those.
- Keep your old SIM in until the switch day.
- Your switch date can be any working day from the next working day up to 30 days ahead.
Keeping a number from home
Numbers from other countries can't be moved to a UK network. You don't need to: most eSIM phones hold two lines at once. Keep your home SIM in for bank security codes and family, and use a UK eSIM for data and UK calls.
WhatsApp stays on the number it is registered to, so your chats don't move. If your home network charges for roaming, turn off data roaming for that SIM in your phone's settings so it only receives calls and texts.
Going home at the end of your course
Want to keep your UK number? Before you cancel, ask for a PAC and move it to another UK network, or keep a plan running. Once a line is cancelled and closed, the number can't always be recovered.
Questions
- How do I get a PAC code?
- Text PAC to 65075 from the phone with the number you want to move. It is free and the code arrives by text straight away.
- Can I move my number from India, China or Nigeria to a UK network?
- No. Only UK numbers can move between UK networks. Keep your home SIM in your phone and add a UK eSIM next to it instead.
- Will I lose service while my number moves?
- Usually only for a short while on the switch day. Keep your old SIM in until then.
